The Many Smoking Health Dangers

The health risks associated with smoking tobacco cigarettes has been well documented but are all of the dangers well known? Most people realize that smoking is the prime cause of lung cancer, but do they know of the other hazards? Do they know that tobacco cigarettes kill almost 500,000 people each year? As a regular cigarette is inhaled, almost 200 different poisons are drawn into the lungs creating serious health issues. It is not hard to figure out why tobacco smoking causes so many lung related diseases. Chronic bronchitis and emphysema are also byproducts of smoking and these effects are irreversible. What are the other health dangers and what else does it do to the human body?

The health dangers from tobacco smoking include many types of cancer. Obviously, it affects the mouth and tongue but it is also the leading cause of throat, kidney, bladder, and pancreas. The easiest disease prevention program is to quit smoking.

Another smoking health danger that many people may not know, is that it contributes to heart disease. Cigarette smokers have a much higher chance of heart attack and of cardiac arrest and, for women who are pregnant; this greatly increases the chances of crib death for their baby.

While the smoking health dangers are clearly marked on each pack of tobacco cigarettes, young people don’t seem to pay much attention to that. Through peer pressure, groups of young adults hang out and smoke, not paying realizing that second hand smoke is a grave health danger. More than 50,000 people die each year whether they smoke or not. Twenty-three states have enacted no smoking in public laws to help address this danger.
